Mysuru: Former CM Siddaramaiah’s control in state politics has proved effective once again, now that the Congress’ coalition partner- the JDS has agreed to support their candidate in the Mysuru City Corporation Mayoral elections, which will be held on Saturday.

According to sources, the JDS will get the deputy Mayor’s post.

In the Mysuru City Corporation election, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by securing 20 seats, followed closely by the Congress (19) and JDS (18). Five independents and one BSP corporator were also elected to the corporation.

After gruelling negotiations, which stretched till Friday midnight, the JDS decided to leave the Mayor’s post to the Congress party. “Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda communicated the party’s decision to former CM Siddaramaiah. Keeping in mind that the survival of the coalition government depends on Siddaramaiah, the JDS decided against any hard bargaining,” said sources.
