Mysuru: The Mysuru Division of the South Western Railways is set to save nearly Rs 1.2 crores by augmenting the Linen Care Centre. The amount was given to the Linen Care Centre for washing the blankets and bedrolls in trains. Henceforth, all the washing will be undertaken by the railway division itself.
The Linen Care Centre used to have a capacity of 1.5 tonnes. However, the installation of two washing machines and one dryer has resulted in a total of four washing machines and two dryers. Thus, the capacity has increased to over 2.6 tonnes of clothes.
Earlier, the clothes were being given to outside vendors for washing and there were several complaints about it. Authorities approved the purchase of two more washing machines when the complaints were brought to their notice.
South Western Railway (Mysuru Division) Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer B Anjaneyulu said, "Our General Manager Ajay Kumar Singh, inaugurated the augmented Linen Care Centre. When we were giving some of the clothes outside, we were not able to get quality because of their poor infrastructure. So, after complaints about the lack of quality, we decided to do it on our own."
"here are nearly 30 employees here. With the help of four washing machines and two dryers, we can easily wash over 2.6 tonnes of clothes. This is the requirement that has to be met every day," he added.
Anjaneyulu further said, "We paid Rs 1.2 crores for two years when we were getting the clothes washed from outside vendors. With the augmentation of the centre, we can not only wash the clothes on our own but also save the Rs 1.2 crore amount."
