Udupi: A young woman whose marriage was fixed to a person working in the US, has reportedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence at Kolalambe here on Tuesday May 6 night
The deceased woman is Prajna (29), daughter of late Alevoor Prabhaker Acharya. Though the reason behind her suicide is not known, police sources said she has left behind a death note. However, its contents are not yet revealed.
Prajna’s father Prabhaker Acharya was killed in a firing outside the Mangala Jewellers which he owned and is located near the bus stand. The incident had taken place in 2005.
It is learnt, Prajna was maritally engaged some time back in the presence of both the families. It is said the would-be groom was however not present at the engagement ceremony.
Udupi Town Police have registered a case and are conducting investigations.
