Mangaluru: The city’s roads and market places wore a deserted look as shops and establishments kept their shutter down for the weekend curfew on Sunday April 25. The curfew was imposed with a view of curbing the rapid spreading covid infection across the state.

Essential services and pharmacies remained open.

As people were allowed to shop till 10 am, early morning shoppers were seen at the markets to stock up on groceries and other essentials. The seriousness of following protocols among the public was very evident with stray cases of negligence reported in the weekend. It can be recollected here that Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Saturday April 25 had expressed his happiness over discipline to follow rules among the district citizens.

A few restaurants with only takeaway services and online food deliveries are functioning. Under the limits of Mangaluru commissionerate, police have deployed 45 check posts to prevent people from venturing outside without a valid reason. Nearly 5 to 6 cops are deployed at each check post.
