Mangaluru: After Karnataka finally opened its borders to non-COVID-19 emergency patients from Kerala under certain conditions, two patients from the Kasargod district arrived in Mangaluru to receive treatment on Thursday, April 9.

While one patient suffers from heart-related issues, another patient has ailments of the brain. However, the latter was taken to a hospital in Kannur as there is no proper treatment for brain-related ailments in Mangaluru hospitals, according to sources.

Both the patients arrived in two separate ambulances till the Talapady check post, from where they were transported in government ambulances to private hospitals in Mangaluru. Prior to allowing the patients to enter the border, they need to furnish a certificate stating that they are not COVID-19 patients.

To ensure this, the Kasargod district administration has deployed two medical officers at the Talapady to certify that the patients arriving from the Kasargod district are not COVID-19 patients.
