Mangaluru: Teachers and lecturers from various city colleges will attend a seminar on “Drug Abuse and addiction Counseling”, at St. Agnes College on Saturday, 18 January and discuss the action plans to prevent the drug menace in the campuses.
The PG Department of Clinical Psychology, St. Agnes is hosting this seminar in collaboration with the Ecolink Institute of Tourism and Education and Teloca Recovery Centers from 2 - 5 pm at PG Auditorium. Ecolink is a travel-based education provider in Mangalore who organizes training camps and educational tours with themes like drug prevention and life skills.
St. Agnes Principal, Sr. Dr. M. Jeswina AC will preside over the opening ceremony and Resource persons from Ecolink, St. Agnes and Teloca will guide the sessions.
Dr. Thomas Scaria, Director, Ecolink, Ms. Sruthi Rajan Kappil, a Clinical Psychologist and faculty of St. Agnes and Ms. Clara D’Cunha, Director Teloca will lead the key sessions on basic understanding of Drug abuse, early diagnosis and intervention and addiction counseling skills. Members of the Narcotic Anonymous group in Mangalore will give their testimonies and explain about their 12 step fellowship.
The objective of the program is to equip teachers with basic knowledge about drugs and addiction counseling skills to identify and help youths at the early stages itself. Any teachers can directly come to the seminar at 1.45 pm and register for the seminar.
Mangalore has reported several cases of drug abuse and drug trafficking among students in the recent past. Some reports pointed out girl students were also being used as drugs peddlers as they were never suspected and checked.
Father Mullers De-addiction ward, Link De-addiction center, Prajna Counseling Centre, Kripa, Kshema De-addiction ward, Teloca Recovery Centers, Jeevanidhi are some of the De-addiction Centers in Mangalore besides a number of psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists available.
