Talapady check post screening travellers from Kerala

Mangaluru: With respect to the spike in Covid cases in Karnataka, the check post at Talapady has started functioning from February 22 to screen travellers from Kerala.

Due to this, the movement of traffic have been restricted. Vehicles are queued up on the roads. People coming from across the neighbouring state is being inquired by the Tahsildar, district health officer, and police personnel.

The administration is making sure that that the passengers crossing the border shows Covid-negative certificates not older than 72 hours. There is no restriction for ambulances. But co-passengers who accompany the patients should get the negative report of the RT-PCR test done 72 hours prior to check-in.

The Dakshina Kannada district administration had closed all interstate borders with Kerala on February 21, barring five major points namely Talapady, Saradka in Bantwal, Nettanige Moodnuru, Menala of Puttur, and Jalsur in Sullia.

Kannadigas living in the border areas were seen protesting at the check posts due to the problems they are facing. They were seen shouting slogans against chief minister B S Yediyurappa and Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra.
