Mangaluru: The District wing of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe met Deputy Commissioner Rajendra K.V. on Wednesday June 16 and urged that the alleged police atrocities on Congress party workers involved in work of the party’s social media wing done on the behest of the State Government needs to stop.

The Congress leaders including former MLA Ramanath Rai appraised DC that in a democracy it is the right of Opposition to criticise the ruling party and help them deliver their duty to the public with sincerity and conscience. The social media wing members of the party too are forwarding WhatsApp and other social media messages only to make public aware of the government’s anyi-punlic policies and actions, which includes messages pertaining to BJP leaders too, stated media release from the Congress of leaders having told the DC.

However, the leaders brought to the notice of DC that off late Congress party workers are being unnecessarily harassed and cases have been filed against them by the police and this is done by the State Government in an act of getting back at opposition, they alleged. There is no precedent of arrest for forwarding messages and therefore, we urge to stop harassment of Congress party workers, the leaders urged the DC.

District Congress President Harish Kumar, former MLA J. R. Lobo, Congress youth leaders Mithun Rai, Luqman, KPCC Media Panelist Padmaprasad Jain and others were present on the occasion.
