Smart City project: Work order issued for 10 projects, tenders called for 12

Mangaluru: Among the total 44 different projects taken up under the ‘Smart City’ project in Mangaluru, work orders have been issued for 10 at a cost of Rs 106.38 Crore.

The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner B H Narayanappa who is also the managing director of Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) told reporters on Tuesday, June 25 that work orders had been issued for smart roads, bus shelters, clock tower, converting government building lights to LED and for Karnataka Municipal Data Society. Meanwhile, the tendering process has been completed for 12 different projects including swimming pool at Emmekere, development of Kadri Park among others.

Informing about the projects in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage, Narayanappa said, “In order to promote government schools, measures will be taken to convert them into smart schools. Meanwhile, skill development and training centres will be set up and two important water resources Gujjarakere and Kavoor Kere will be rejuvenated under the smart city project. Upgradation of Mangala stadium, development of Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospital, development of waterfront areas, redevelopment of DC office among others projects are also in the planning stage, to which DPR is yet to be prepared, he informed.

Narayanappa shed light on several projects which will be undertaken under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in smart city project. “Work orders have been issued for the installation of rooftop solar set up on government buildings and multi-level car parking at Hampanakatta, which will be undertaken under the PPP model. Tender has been floated for two major projects-redevelopment of central market and conversion of street light to LED”, he said.

Integrated transport hub at Padeel

Informing about a major project, the ‘Integrated Transport Hub’ at Padil, Narayanappa said, “A total of 20 acres of private land at Padil, adjacent to the under-construction new DC office, has been identified for the purpose. Meanwhile, two satellite bus shelters will be set up at Pumpwell and Kuloor. These important projects are in the planning stage for which, DPR is yet to be prepared, Narayanappa said.

Executive engineers Chandrakanth and Abdul Rahman were present.
