‘Ride For Rotary’ flagged off in city: 38 Rotarians from 14 countries participate

Mangaluru: The convoy of motor vehicles ‘Ride For Rotary’ was flagged off from Hotel Ocean Pearl Inn, Bejai- Kapikad on Sunday. January 19.

District Governor Rtn Joseph Mathew flagged off the ride in the presence of Assistant Governors Rtn Sumith S Rao, Geethanand Pai, Rithesh Baliga and past district governor Rtn Krishna Shetty. Convener of the event Rtn Raghavendra and Rtn Kantharaj were also present on the occasion.

The Ride For Rotary includes 28 motorbikes and five cars. The participating countries are Germany, France, Switzerland, England, Sweden. Netherland, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, USA, India, Poland, Austria and Canada.  The riders are between the age group of 21 to 78 years,  with 78-year old Otto Rieve from Canada being the senior most enthusiast.

The other riders are Markus Widmer from Switzerland, Katja Muderlak and Harold Van Der Linden from Netherlands, Michael Moser from Switzerland, Raj Patoli from Switzerland, Urs Aebi from Switzerland, Urs Tschan from Switzerland, Torbjorn Vik from Norway, Jakob Bejer, Shin Khee Leen and Oliver Bejer from Denmark, Torsten Jacobsen from Unites States, Pertti Rautio from Sweden, Didier Fillastre from France, Abraham Zacharias from Rotary Club of Mangaluru Hillside, Gerrit Raupach from Germany, Dagfinn Christensen from Norway, Alain Jumeau and Jackie from France, Herbert Paierl from Austria, Pauline Armstrongg from UK, Tolksdorf Uli from Germany, Jan Heethem from Belgium, Vogt Jasper from Germany, Zbigniew Nagay from Poland, Julian Winch and Nicola from UK, Arnaud Armengaud from France, Wolf Dieter Ihle and Margarete Ihle from Germany, Horn Detlef and Marion from Germany, Aubailly Serge and Marie Anselmetti from France, Willian Sahlaman from USA, Mats Olsson and Mia Olsson from Sweden, Erwin Vermeesch from Belgium.   India, Swis national of Indian origin, Raj Patholi and Mangalurean Abrahma Zacharias are among the riders.

Thus, a total of 38 Rotarians from 14 countries participated in the 2019-20 ‘Ride For Rotary’ and they will traverse through Madikeri, Mysuru, Wayanad, Ooty, Coimbatore, Munnar, Thekkady and Allepey before terminating at Kochi on January 29.

The ‘Ride for Rotary’ is a charity event conceived by Rotary District 3181 which comprises of the revenue districts of Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar covering 85 Rotary Clubs in nine zones. Rotarians from across the world will come together for twelve exhilarating days. They will traverse and experience the varied cultures and cuisines of the region.
