Mangaluru: The bridges and buildings that have been damaged by the rains in Bantwal and Belthangady taluks have become picnic spots now.
Bizarre but true, people from distant places are reportedly thronging these areas to witness the nature’s fury. Many curious people were seen on the bridge built across Nethravthi near Panemangaluru on Friday, August 16. Some people were seen near Bantara Bhavana, located near Thumbe in Banwal taluk, which was inundated few days ago. While some were just passers-by stopping over at these past, many had reportedly come specifically to see these places.
Sources also informed that people are making a beeline to witness broken bridges at Kukkavu in Mittabagilu village and Banjarumale bridge in Belthangady taluk, wherein a temporary wooden bridge was set up by the local people.
In order to help flood victims, some associations have already started collecting funds from the public. As a house belongs to Vishwanath of Kanyana, which was located at Mandekolu village in Sullia taluk was damaged by the heavy rain, locals in the area built a temporary shelter for his family. Such efforts are also being made at several places across the district to mitigate people’s pain and losses.
