Mangaluru: Though the government has not announced the reopening date for schools and colleges, some educational institutions in the city are urging the parents to pay the fees and donations.
Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, the government has imposed a lockdown on the country to check the spread of COVID-19. Exams have also been postponed as a precautionary measure. Though the lockdown has been relaxed, the government has not yet decided about the opening of educational institutions.
However, some educational institutions are allegedly compelling the students’ parents to cough up the fees, as well as the donations.
Allegedly, the educational institutions have sent messages to the parents asking them to pay the fees and donations, screenshots of which are being circulated on social media. The educational institutions have been criticised by the public, who have also demanded stringent action against those educational institutions that are forcing parents to pay up in the current situation.
When contacted, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Malleswamy told Newskarnataka.com that the government has permitted the schools to collect fees. “However, they should not compel the parents to pay fees and donations. If any school or college is found forcing the parents to pay, action will be taken against them, he said.
Meanwhile, he asked the public to file specific complaints in this regard instead of a general complaint.
