Mangaluru: The body of Padmashree awardee and veteran saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath was kept at the Mini Town Hall for the public and well-wishers to pay their last respects on Monday, October 14.
His students paid him a tribute through a musical programme ‘Swaranjali’ on the occasion.
Earlier, his body was taken in a funeral procession from his house in Padavinangadi, Devikatte to the Mini Town Hall in an open vehicle. The vehicle also contained a huge portrait of Kadri Gopalnath. His wife Sarojini, children Manikanth Kadri, Guruprasad and Ambika were also present.
The district administration had arranged all facilities, including drinking water, at the Mini Town Hall for those who came to pay their respects.
Gopalnath’s body was kept for public viewing from 10 am to 2 pm after which it was shifted to his native place in Sajipa of the Bantwal taluk. Here, his final rites will be held as per the customs and traditions of the Jogi community.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde, former MLA J R Lobo, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde and others laid a wreath on Gopalnath’s body and paid their respects.
Later in the evening, his last rites were performed along with state honours at his native. During this time, MP and BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Rajesh Naik, former minister B Ramanath Rai and others were present.
