Pomila Jaspal appointed as new Director (Finance) of MRPL

Mangaluru: Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India has appointed Pomila Jaspal as Director (Finance) of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL). She took charge of her new role on Tuesday, October 15.

Prior to this, she was serving as Executive Director-Corporate Finance in ONGC.

Jaspal has an impressive educational background which directly contributes to her field of operations. She is a fellow member of the ICMAI, gold medalist and recipient of the Late Mrs. Dhanpati Goel Gold Medal from the ICMAI. She got her B.Com. (Hons) degree from MCM DAV College, Chandigarh and followed that up with an M.Com degree from Punjab University.  Before joining ONGC, she had a short stint as lecturer in HMV College, Jalandhar.

She joined ONGC in 1985 as a Finance and Accounts Officer and rose to the coveted position of Executive Director-Chief Corporate Finance. She is the first lady officer in ONGC to occupy this top post. Jaspal handled varied assignments including corporate finance functions such as direct taxi, indirect tax, investor relations, corporate budget and Project appraisals etc. She’s also the Chairperson of the Women Development Forum, an ONGC forum dedicated to all women employees of the company. As a fitting recognition to her illustrious career, she was appointed to the Board of OPaL (ONGC Petro additions Limited) as a woman Director.

Initially, she was posted in the head office in Dehradun and handled key assignments and later with Joint Venture group at JVOG, Mumbai. Subsequently, she was deputed to the Contract Cell of MoPNG, where she worked in different areas of gas pricing, Rangarajan Committee, gas utilization policy, royalty committee, formulation of policies for smooth implementation of PSCs and monitoring the royalty and profit petroleum to the GoI.

She also carries with her the rich exposure of ONGC Videsh, the company’s international arm, handling the assignment of in-charge, Project Finance, for the execution of almost all overseas projects (exploration and development) and was actively involved in the smooth takeover and execution of new acquisitions of OVL. Subsequently, she became Head-Finance of Assam Asset, ONGC, and handled this challenging assignment for four years.

She is now the first woman Functional Director in the Board of MRPL.
