Mangaluru: People from Ullal, Chembugudde and other surrounding areas picketed outside the MESCOM office in Chembugudde claiming that electricity bill issued to them is much more than their usage.
The local leaders and other members of the public protested outside the office and took the officials to task. They also demanded that the electricity bills be waived off for three months as the lockdown has been hard on everyone.
The protesters, who were gathered in large numbers, ignored the social distancing norms. Most of them did not even wear masks.
It can be noted that some activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) recently met the MESCOM commissioner and demanded that the electricity bills be waived off. However, there was no positive response from the officials.
