Patrika Din celebrated in DK and Udupi

Mangalore: The need to do justice to the news reports we publish is most vital in this age when a news matter can reach every nook and corner of the world in a flash of  a second, was stressed here by Dr Sandhya S Pai, Managing Editor of Taranga Weekly.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Patrika Din  celebrations at the Patrika Bhavan here on Tuesday July 1 under the aegis of the DK District Working Journalists Associating and Mangalore Press club. “ A reporter needs to have clarity and facts before him while  presenting any news. Even a small folly on his part would lead to grave repercussions,” she said. Sandhya Pai also said  newspapers should transcend the barriers of languages.

Shivasubrahmanya,K, Editor of Hosadigantha who also spoke, regretted the fact that some newspaper managements were acting  puppets at the hands of the administration.

 Ramakrishna R, President of Mangalore Press Club,  Kiran Sirsikar, General Secretary, P.B.Harish Rai, President of DK District Working Journalists  Association. Ravindra Shetty, Srinivas Indaje, General Secretary and others were present.

A painting exhibition ‘Netravathi Varna Jagrithi’ by  artist and environmentalist Dinesh Holla will be held at Patrika Bhavan for a week as part of the celebrations.

Udupi: “There is the need to analyze the real meaning of freedom of press”, said the veteran journalist A S N Hebbar.

 

He was speaking at the Press Day celebrations organized by District Working Journalists at Press club on Tuesday July 1.

Hebbar in his speech said that, hundreds of incidents have taken place that ignites us to think about the real freedom of press. Even after Independence, till date we have a dictatorship rule in the name of democracy. Money and power dominates the society, in such a situation media play a vital role.

There are unlimited pressures against the press freedom. The reporters have the power to work effectively as it is the fourth estate with the right to freedom of speech and expression.

Media has the power to deliver justice. He added that the journalists should make the profession meaning full.

On the occasion senior reporter Gokuldas Pai (Doordarshan) and Chetan Padubidri of (Udayavany) was felicitated.
