Mangaluru: Customs officials seized a total of 617 grams of gold from three passengers at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday, January 16 and Thursday, January 17.
Surprisingly, all the three gold smugglers had reportedly concealed the gold in their inner garments.
The customs officials grew suspicious of two women- B B Shabima and Fathima Najha, both from Bhatkal, who returned from Dubai by an Air India Express flight on Thursday. During an interrogation, officials found that one woman was carrying 24 karat gold weighing 140 grams worth Rs 4.53 lakh, the other woman had 24 karat gold weighing 174 grams worth Rs 5.63 lakh gold in their underwear.
Customs officials had, on Wednesday, recovered 24 karat gold weighing 303.2 grams worth Rs 9.8 lakh from a middle-aged passenger.
