Mangaluru: The National Students Union of India (NSUI ) today lamented the efficacy of the state government’s handling of the SSLC revaluation process. They called it a goof-up alleging many students who had failed secured pass marks after revaluation. The National Student Union of India (NSUI) state general-secretary, Farooq Bayabe addressing the media at the DK Congress Committee Meeting hall, Mallikatta-Mangaluru, demanded that the state government initiate a high-level inquiry into the SSLC valuation Goof-Up. He said, “many students were affected by the irregularities in valuation in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. There are 748 cases wherein revaluation was improper. Students are naturally concerned. We urge that the government take strong action against the evaluators for creating such blunders in evaluating the SSLC answer sheets”

He prompted the Education Minister Suresh Kumar, to comment on this issue on his Facebook account as this was a priority over all other issues, the context being, prior to the announcement of SSLC results, the Minister on his Facebook was keeping students highly motivated by his inspirational posts on Facebook but has now gone quiet. “This blunder created by the evaluators has put the students in stress, depression, and many were on the verge of committing suicide. The hefty fee for re-totaling, getting photocopies of answer scripts and revaluation has affected many students during this economic crisis triggered by Covid-19. It should be noted that the government education board is charging Rs 405 to get scanned copies of the answer sheets and Rs 805 per subject for revaluation. NSUI condemns such a move by the government” added Farooq.

He urged the Minister to inform the people of the state about this valuation blunder and initiate stringent action on the careless evaluators. “We also demand a Lokayukta and ACB probe into this issue, and all those evaluators found guilty after investigation, should be terminated from their jobs. The government should also issue an official statement on this issue so that the public knows about it. Once the colleges start on 1 October as announced by the government, NSUI will campaign at various education institutions against the rise in drugs menace among students, and bring awareness on ragging, Farooq said.

NSUI District General Secretary, Sawad Sullia, NSUI RTI State Coordinator Anvith Kateel, NSUI Mangaluru President Shownak Rai, NSUI Bantwal President Vinay Kumar, and secretaries Satish Alakemajalu and Shafeeq others were present.
