Nivedita Mirajkar and team installed as Excom of ISTD – M’lore / Udupi Chapter

Mangaluru: The newly elected Executive Committee, 2020-22, of the Mangaluru/Udupi Chapter, Indian Society of Training and Development (ISTD), led by Nivedita Mirajkar formally took charge of their roles at the Installation Ceremony conducted online on 29th September 2020. Guest of Honor, Mrs. Nirmala Lilly, ex-Chairperson, Kochi Chapter, ISTD administered the oath of office to the Executive Committee comprising

CA M N Pai, formally welcomed the gathering and invited guests. Outgoing Secretary, Gurudutt Somyaji presented the chapter report for the previous term 2018-2020.

Before the oath of office was administered to the Executive Committee, the outgoing Chairman of the Mangalore/Udupi Chapter Dr. Ramakrishna Chadaga, addressed the virtual gathering; he spoke about the genesis of the chapter and the initiatives taken during his term to promote the chapter and its activities. He highlighted the fact that three MOUs were signed with Educational Institutions and several other activities were conducted. He also said, with the increase in membership especially from Mangaluru, the activities can now be expanded to include collaborations with Industry. He commended and appreciated the role of Dr. Vijendra Bhat, the Returning Officer, in the recently concluded Mangalore/Udupi Chapter elections. Outgoing Secretary, Gurudutt Somayaji presented the Annual Report of the year gone by.

While Chief Guest, Mr. G Varagha Swamy, National Council Member, Bangalore spoke about the history of ISTD in India, the Diploma program, and discussed several topics such as the value of truth, the importance of listening, and the needs of the service sector, the Guest of Honor, Mrs. Nirmala Lilly, ex-Chairperson, Kochi Chapter, ISTD, after administering the oath of office, shared her insights on best practices implemented by the Kochi Chapter, particularly the need to initiate student chapters in educational institutions and involve them in events organized by the chapter to offer them additional experience valuable for their careers.

In her inaugural speech, Nivedita Mirajkar introduced each member of her Committee and promised new initiatives to take the chapter forward along with the members’ collaboration.

The installation was followed by an Education Session, ‘Humility – Archaic Value or Valuable Trait’ by Bharathi Shevgoor, a well-known English and Soft Skills Trainer and Writer, in Mangalore. She outlined four key aspects to define Humility in practical terms and responded to several questions after the presentation. The post-presentation interaction was lively and as interesting as the presentation itself. The Guest Speaker was introduced by MC Member, Shivani Baliga

MC, Divyashree Gatti, conducted the program. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Preetham Kamath.

Anita Chauhan, Chairperson, Kota Chapter; Simantini Bhaswar, Chairperson, Pune Chapter; and Dr. K A Zakkariya, Chairperson, Kochi Chapter, offered their felicitations.

The event was attended by members and guests from many other chapters of the ISTD.

About ISTD

The Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD), established in April 1970, is a national level professional & non-profit society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It has a large membership of individuals and institutions involved in the area of training and development of Human Resource from Government, Public and Private Sector Organization & Enterprises; Educational and Training Institutions and other Professional Bodies.

The Society is affiliated to the International Federation of Training and Development Organizations (IFTDO), USA and Asian Regional Training and Development Organizations (ARTDO), Manila.

ISTD Organizes Training Programs, all over the country both at Chapter and National Levels. The Programs cover selected areas of HRD with special emphasis on Training of Trainers, Training Goals & Objectives, and Training Tools & Technologies. A very large number of Public and Private Sector Organizations, Training Institutions Central And State Government participate in these programs, some of which have been held in collaboration with the Planning Commission, Bureau of Public Enterprises, and the Training Division of Department of Personnel, Government of India.

The Society publishes a Quarterly Journal, “Indian Journal of Training and Development”.

The ISTD Diploma in Training & Development, conducts a Distance Learning Programme of 18 month’s duration for the purposes of recruitment to superior posts under the Central Government and PSUs is also recognized by the Department of Personnel and Training DoPT), Govt. of India under its Faculty Development Scheme and by many of the corporates for appointments in their organizations.

ISTD has been designated as the National Nodal Agency for the `Testing and Certification’ of Skilled Workers in the organized and unorganized sectors.

ISTD is managed by a National Council, headed by a President at the apex level and Managing Committees headed by a Chairman at the Chapter level. They are assisted by other office bearers and functional committees in a wide spectrum of activities.
