Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has constituted a team of nine members to investigate and submit a report on the incident where a pregnant woman who returned from Dubai was denied entry to her apartment and was refused treatment at a hospital.

Following a complaint by the woman’s relative, DC Rupesh said, in a press release, that MESCOM Managing Director Snehal R would lead the committee and asked that a report be submitted to the district administration.

It can be recalled that a pregnant woman returned from Dubai on May 12 and was quarantined at Sai Palace, located on K S Rao Road. As her throat swabs tested negative for Covid-19, she was allowed to go home. However, members of the Resident Welfare Association of her apartment allegedly did not allow her to enter the apartment, fearing the spread of Coronavirus. Hence, she was forced to continue her stay at Sai Palace.

Meanwhile, it is also alleged that doctors denied her treatment fearing a COVID-19 infection, which led to her miscarrying her child. A complaint has been filed with the DC, citing physical and mental harassment, which has now led to the formation of a committee for the probe.
