Mangaluru: In a new turn of events, Kambala jockey Nishant Shetty has broken Srinivasa Gowda’s record on Sunday, February 16. Shetty completed the 143-meter run in just 13.68 seconds and when calculated for 100 meters, the time comes up to a staggering 9.51 seconds!
It can be recalled that Gowda’s record stood at 9.55 seconds which helped him shoot to fame across the country. A video clip of Gowda’s run went viral and evoked reactions from several social media users including Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. He was even dubbed India’s Usain Bolt for beating the Olympic champion’s time.
Now, Nishant Shetty (from Bajagoli Jogibettu) has set a new record at the Soorya-Chandra Jodukare Kambala in Venoor, Dakshina Kannada.
Meanwhile, Kambala runner Srinivasa Gowda was recently felicitated by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and given a Rs 3 lakh reward as well. After the meeting, Gowda said, “I never thought I will run this fast. The main role was played by the buffaloes and the owner. He looked after them well. The buffaloes can run even faster.”
Furthermore, Sports Minister Rijiju also invited him to undergo training at the Sports Authority of India.
