Mangaluru: Following the nationwide strike in connection with assault on a doctor in West Bengal, many private hospitals cancelled their outpatient and other non-essential services in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday, June 17.
A board was displayed in almost all hospitals stating that the outpatient and other non-essential services would not be available due to the doctors’ protest. The board also informed that all services would be resumed only after 9 AM on Tuesday, June 18.
The doctors staged protest in front of the building of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Attavar. The protesters urged that the incidents of assaulting the doctors should not happen anywhere and a stringent law should be enacted to punish the culprits.
The doctors who participated in the protest opined that no doctor would intend to harm their patients and they try their level best to heal them. “Despite that, some untoward incidents happen which is beyond their control. It is meaningless to attack doctors citing such reasons. Hence, the union government should take it as a serious issue and create stringent law.
IMA President Dr. Sachidanand Rai, Secretary Dr. Sudheendra Rao, A J Hospital Medical Director Dr. Prashanth Marla among others were present.
