Namma Kudla channel to hold ‘Goodu Deepa’ competition on Oct 26

Mangaluru: Tulu cable TV channel ‘Namma Kudla’ will be organising its `sky lamp’ (Goodu Deepa) competition at Kudroli temple on October 26 around 4 pm.

Namma Kudla Director Harish B Karkera told media persons at Patrika Bhavan on Saturday, October 19, that as part of the Diwali celebrations, the sky lamp competition will be held under traditional, modern and model categories. “Winners and first runner-ups in each category will be awarded gold medals and those who secure third place in the competition will be awarded silver medals.  Consolation prizes will also be given to participants in each category.”

The competition this time will be attracting over 500 participants. Besides a memento, each participant will also receive a sweet box, Karkera informed.

Highlighting the rules of the competition, Karkera said, “Participants should be present at the premises before 4 pm. The decision of judges will be final. As the event will be held on the temple premises, participants should protect the temple’s sanctity.”

“The entire programme will be telecast live on Namma Kudla channel,” he added.

Awards for achievers

Event coordinator Prof M S Kotian listed out the names of awardees who have contributed to art, literature, and culture of the region. He said, “Karnataka Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) M S Mahabaleshwar Rao will be conferred the ‘Namma Kudla’ award and Dakshina Kannada district Theatre Artists Federation President Kishore D Shetty will be presented ‘Namma Tuluver’ award. District Rajyotsava awardee Jagadishchandra Anchan Sootarpete and an international weightlifter Sathvik Alevooraya will be presented ‘Namma Kudla Sadhana’  awards. N Ashok of Puttur, Padnoor, who has been serving in the Indian Army will be conferred ‘Namma Kudla Sadhaka’ award. Meanwhile, an organisation called ‘Boloor Mogaveera Sabha’ will be presented the ‘Shri B P Karkera Award’ for their contribution towards social service.”

Channel Directors Mohan Karkera, Suresh Karkera, Leelaksha Karkera, programme coordinators Navaneeth Shetty Kadri and Dayanand Kateel were present.
