Mangaluru: The activists of the Hindu fringe group setting up different teams for preventing illegal cattle transportation is very common in the coastal district. But for a change now, the Muslims are planning to set up a district level organisation or team to prevent illegal cattle transportation.
It is evident that the miscreants who indulge in illegal cattle transportation are not only from the Muslim religion but also from Hinduism and Christianity. But, there is a general notion among the public that those who involved in illegal cattle transportation and slaughtering are from Muslim religion only. Such a notion has created communal violence also in the district.
In order to prevent this, some people from Muslim organisations have planned to set up an organisation to prevent illegal cattle transportation. The youth wing of the State Muslim League would look into that. Though there is a plan to set up such organisations throughout the state, priority has been given to Dakshina Kannada district to begin with. Sources from Muslim League informed that a district level team would start within a month.
How does it work?
As per the plan, the team members would extend their helping hands to the police department to trace the culprits. The committee members themselves would collect the names of the miscreants and pass them on to the police department.
Youth State President of Muslim League Siddiq Thalapady told newskarnataka.com that discussions were held with some prominent leaders to set up a committee in this regard. “As per our discussions, the committee members would help the police department to trace the culprits. If any person from the Muslim community is found repeatedly indulged in illegal cattle transportation, the committee members would urge our religious leaders to banish him from the religion. We don’t want to be targeted by anyone in the name of cattle transportation as it tarnishes the image of the whole Muslim community”, he added.
