Mangaluru: Writer, environmentalist and activist Tauseef Ahmed, who is also known as ‘Mr Rescuer’ has received an opportunity to deliver a talk in an international level talk-show TEDx, which will be organised by K S Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte on September 29.

Considering the experience and achievement of Tauseef in rescuing animals, the organisers had selected Tauseef for the talk show and given a topic titled ‘Our planet, theirs too’. Tauseef has been working relentlessly to rescue animals in trouble in and around Mangaluru. He has rescued over 9000 animals including dog, cat, cattle, reptiles, birds among others in his 10 years journey.

It can be noted that Tauseef has received ‘Best Street Care and Rescue’ award at the India for Animals national conference held at Hyderabad in 2018. Though eight internationally highly acclaimed achievers would be selected for this talk show, the organisers now revealed the name of only four achievers including Tauseef. The other three selected speakers are Sreenath Bhasi,  a versatile actor and musician hailing from Kochi, Inshah Bashir,  a national-level wheelchair basketball player representing the state of Jammu and Kashmir and Sonal Devraj, a dancer, choreographer and youtuber who has an incredible number of collaborations with various celebrities.

The remaining four speakers are yet to be selected. Though the organisers are planning to bring cricketer Rahul Dravid and Sudha Murty, chairperson, Infosys Foundation, as the guests for this programme, their participation has not been confirmed yet.

Speaking to newskarnataka.com Tauseef Ahmed expressed his pleasure over the selection. “I am very happy as it is for the first time that an animal welfare activist has been selected for this TEDx international talk show. I am very lucky to be selected for this talk show. I want to shed light upon man-animal conflict and what precautionary measures should be taken to reduce man-animal conflict in the future”, he said.

What is TED and TEDx?

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to ideas worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman among others. Whereas, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x is an independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
