Mangaluru: On September 20, a group of concerned Mangalureans are observing Climate Strike Day outside the Mangaluru City Corporation from 5 pm to 7 pm.

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness among the public about the damage our fast-paced and unsustainable lifestyle is doing to the planet.

The objective is also to tell the leaders that people want better options that are good for the planet.

Being a coastal city, Mangaluru is already facing the brunt of climate change. Irregular rains, sea erosion, plastic pollution are a few of the problems the city is facing.

The movement was started by 16-year-old Swedish girl, Greta Thunberg.

In 2018, Greta began a silent protest to raise awareness about the alarming climate crisis. She skipped school every Friday for the cause and now, thousands around the world have joined her.
