Mangaluru: The reservation notification meant for the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has been suspended by the High Court of Karnataka on Monday, January 14 and it has set a new deadline of January 28 to release a fresh notification in this regard.

Jayendra Kotian of Mangaluru had approached the state High Court against the reservation notification of MCC election, claiming that existing reservation is wrong and that more preference was given to one particular caste repeatedly to contest in the MCC election. The applicant also demanded reservation on rotation basis.

During the hearing, High Court opined that the existing reservation system was wrong and directed the state government to release a fresh reservation notification for the MCC election before January 28.

Close on the heels of High Court’s verdict, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas welcomed the decision and informed that reservation should be on a rotation basis.
