MCC polls: Security beefed up in City Corporation limits

Mangaluru: Security has been tightened by police in the wake of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) election, scheduled on November 12.

Proper security measures were taken up in all 448 voting booths. Among the total 448 booths, 75 booths are considered as sensitive booths. Police launched night patrolling in all eight check-posts, which falls under the MCC limits. While the sensitive booth is under the surveillance of a head-constable and a home guard, normal booths will be under police constable and a home guard. Besides that, two DCPs, four ACPs, 12 police inspectors, 32 police sub-inspectors, 77 ASIs, 511 head-constables and 193 home guards will be deployed for the polling day. As a precautionary measure 5 KSRP platoons, 10 Central Armed Reserve (CAR) police units and two units of Rapid Action Force (RAF) will also be kept on alert mode.

For the smooth conduct of the election, officials from various departments have been divided into 495 teams with each team having four members. A total of 448 D group employees will also be involved in the election process.
