The raid was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of MCC Gayathri Nayak. Starting the raid from ‘Amarnath Enterprises’ located on Maidan Cross road, the officials seized over 300 kgs of plastic bags, cups and other materials. The officials also struck several plastic outlets on Maidan Cross Road and Central Market area. Some shop owners were fined Rs. 250 to Rs. 500 for keeping bags of thickness less than 40 microns.

Speaking to the mediapersons Gayathri Nayak informed that the MCC has already taken strict measures to control illegal sales of plastic bags and other items, which are less than 40 microns. “Though lot of awareness has already been created about stopping usage of plastic bags and other plastic materials, some shops are still engaged in selling the same.
