Mangaluru: The MCC officials went on a war-footing on Saturday, to educate people on the need of wearing masks to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The city is one of the hotspots in the country and here, COVID-19 cases are rising by triple digits every day. As there has been a consistent rise in COVID-19 cases, the district administration has made it compulsory for people to follow the COVID-19 guidelines. Also, the MCC Mayor recently warned that those who found not wearing a mask in public will be fined.
On Saturday, MCC officials fined people at the Hampankatta junction who were found without a mask.
At Surathkal, in the presence of environmental engineer Dayanad, senior health inspector Sushanth, and Health Supervisor Praveen, Yogish and Subhash spotted people without masks on the roads and in shops and penalized them.
Meanwhile, in a unique move, free masks were distributed by the MCC officials in order to raise awareness among the people.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka.com, senior health inspector Sushanth said, “It is everyone’s responsibility to follow the COVID-19 guidelines. When people violate the rules, penalties will be levied so that offenders will not repeat the mistake again. However, we are also concerned about them, so we are distributing masks so that they can leave while wearing a mask and reduce the risk of infection.”
