Mangaluru: The members of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha’s Dakshina Kannada unit submitted a memorandum to the MCC Mayor on Wednesday, urging that a circle is constructed near the KSRTC bus depot and that a statue of Swatantraya Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is installed here. They also demanded that the circle be named after Veer Savarkar.
In their memorandum to the Mayor, the ABHM stated that Veer Savarkar’s patriotism is unquestionable and that “a particular political party does not want him to rest peace”. “The Dakshina Kannada district committee of the Mahasabha decided that a statue of Veer Savarkar should be installed once a circle is built near the KSRTC bus stand,” they said in the memorandum, adding that space is provided for a circle to be built.
Speaking to the media after accepting the memorandum, the Mayor explained the difficulties about adding a circle at the requested spot saying that it will be difficult for heavy vehicles, including the KSRTC buses, to make a turn, especially during peak hours. “The circle will be inconvenient for motorists, but we will discuss this matter during the next Council meeting, and make a decision,” he added.
State president ABHM Dr. L K Suvarna, other state and DK members of the ABHM Rajesh Poojary, Naveen Kumar, Rajesh K Yekkur, Subramanya Rao, Dr. Anuradha, Krishna Shetty, and Jagadeesh Pumpwell were present.
