Mangaluru: Congress MLA from Maharashtra (Bandra East) Zeeshan Siddique has informed that his party will convince their Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray not to implement the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
It can be recalled that on Friday, Thackeray, after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time since the Shiv Sena and the BJP split, said that no one should be afraid of the Act.
Zeeshan, the youngest MLA in Maharashtra, after visiting Mangaluru for the first time, convened a press conference at the district Congress office on Saturday, February 22. He said that Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray had already expressed his opinion against the implementation of both the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR). “However, Uddhav is yet to reveal his decision about the CAA. Hence, the Congress will convince him about the ill-effects of the CAA and insist that he not implement it in Maharashtra. As the budget session will start from Monday, February 24, the Maharashtra coalition government will take a clear stand on the CAA,” he informed.
Meanwhile, Zeeshan informed that the coalition government in Maharashtra has taken several measures to create job opportunities and proper drinking water facilities for the people. “I won the election in the Bandra East constituency, which used to be the stronghold of the Shiv Sena. I defeated the Shiva Sena candidate and now, I want to bring some pro-people programmes for the people of my constituency. As Mangaluru is a hub of education, I will implement some of Mangaluru’s programmes in my constituency,” he added.
Dakshina Kannada district Congress president and MLC Hareesh Kumar and other Congress leaders Shahul Hameed, Sudheer T K, Kanchur Monu, Santhosh Kumar, Neeral Pal, Nazeer Bajal and others were present.
