Mangaluru: Tension gripped the city after a device suspected to be a live bomb was detected in Mangaluru International Airport premises, on Monday morning.

It is said that an unidentified person, who came riding an auto left a laptop bag in the airport premises. The same abandoned bag had the device in it and the CISF personnel spotted the bag near the passengers’ slot.

Commissioner of Police Dr Harsha, who rushed to the spot, later said that there is no need for the general public to be worried as the situation is under control. He said that measures have been taken to move the passengers from the spot.

As per sources, bomb squad has been called in from Bengaluru as well and the process of diffusing the bomb is underway. There are possibilities of top cops coming to Mangaluru.

Security has been beefed up in and around MIA after the episode, which strongly hints at an evident security lapse.
The episode left the flight schedules disturbed.

The police are now investigating various angles including a connection between this episode with the recent CAA protest that has turned violent in the region.

(More details awaited)
