Mangaluru: The forest department has laid eight cages to trap the leopard that appeared in Bajpe and the surrounding areas.

Though there is a rumour that people sighted a tiger, the forest department has clarified that there are no such possibilities and that the animal spotted in Kelarai, Ganjimutt, Kuppepadavu, Edapadavu, Adyar and Mallur among other surrounding areas over the past few days is a Leopard. However, the people are frightened.

Although the forest department had kept a dog and a chicken inside the cage to easily trap the leopard, it did not work, sources said.

When contacted, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Sridhar informed that despite eight cages being kept, not a single leopard has been caught so far. “However, we will continue our efforts”, he said.
