Mangaluru: In order to promote surfing and beach cleanliness among the youth, Surfing Swami Foundation in association with other organisations organised surfing competition ‘Mantra Grom Search’ for children at Panambur Beach on Sunday, May 19.
A total of 24 Kids from various parts of Mulki, Mangaluru and Panambur participated under the age categories of 13 and 16. Selvam bagged first, Praveen secured second place and Subbu bagged third place in boys category on age group 16. In another category of boys ( Below 13) Naman bagged first place, Akash secured second and Prakash stood in third place. In girls open category, Chirali bagged first place, Akhila secured second and Sanvi bagged third place.
Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil distributed prizes for the winners and informed that district administration is ready to extend all cooperation to the children in order to bloom their talent.
The aim of the event was to identify and nurture talented young surfers under the guidance of Surfing Swami Foundation. This surfing competition had one of the best conditions for kids who had to contest in 3 – 4 ft waves, high tides, and currents. Many kids showed drastic improvement in techniques and performance from last year. For many, it was their first time in a surf contest.
DCP Laxmi Ganesh, ACP Srinivas Gowda, KCCI former president Rammohan Pai, Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project CEO Yathish Baikampady, Surfing Swami Foundation Director Y Gaurav Hegde, Henry Britto among others were present.
