Mangaluru: Muneer Katipalla from the Communist Party of India(M) has filed his nomination from Mangaluru North Constituency for the upcoming assembly elections to be held on May 12.

Taking a procession from PVS Circle to Mangaluru City Corporation along with several fellow party workers, Muneer Katipalla submitted his nomination before the election returning officer here on April 19.

Speaking to media, after filing nomination he said that in two decades of his political career this is the first time he was contesting the elections.

“The election commission had earlier in 1998 declared the Surathkal Constituency as a communally sensitive area. Recently, the EC also observed that the amount of money spent to win elections is the highest in this constituency and hence a special task force has been formed to tackle the issue”, said Muneer.

Instead of clean politics driven by people-oriented policies, communal and money politics are ruling our constituency since the past two decades, stated Muneer adding that apart from these two, the issue of low job generation was the biggest challenge before him.

“The youths in our constituency are deprived of employment. There are lot of Industries but no employment. These industries are creating only pollution instead of creating employment opportunities for the youth. I will also emphasise on creating employment for the youth”, he added.

“When MRPL and SEZ were started then BJP and Congress MPs had assured of employment opportunities for the youth. But even those who lost their land for these industries to be set up failed to get the jobs despite the assurances. Presently, the unemployed youth are trapped in the ganja mafia and communal politics. We will give try to overcome this by creating employment opportunities”, he claimed.

While the world seems to be grappling with the water crisis, many industries located in this belt are using the Nethravathi and discharging the untreated effluents into Phalguni river. There is thus a need to start a fight to save Phalguni river, he said.

“Another issue is the absence of community hospitals in the constituency and our priority is to build government hospital,” he concluded.
