Mangaluru: Demands are being made to keep the memory of eminent saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath alive, by building a memorial in Mangaluru. The musician’s family members placed the request before the district administration when Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh visited their home on Saturday, October 12.
The district administration, however, is yet to decide on the matter.
Kadri Gopalnath passed away on Friday while he was being treated at the AJ Hospital & Research Centre. Condolences poured in from all over the country after news of his death spread.
An eminent saxophonist, Gopalnath represented and brought fame to Mangaluru city at the international level. His contribution to music was immense as his excellent performance on the saxophone received high praise even on international platforms. It can be noted that he had also given monetary support to government schools and various temples.
Deputy Commissioner Sindhu has admitted that Gopalnath’s family has requested the district administration to build him a memorial. Finding land for the project, however, is difficult but the administration is looking into the same, she informed.
