Mangaluru: Finally, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced its first list of candidates from the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress President, Mithun Rai’s name has been featured on the list as the candidate from Mangaluru, thereby making his selection official.
Several names of senior leaders like B Ramanath Rai, Vinay Kumar Sorake, B K Hariprasad, M N Rajendra Kumar among others are on the list, however, the party high command zeroed in on Mithun to take on sitting MP and the BJP’s candidate, Nalin Kumar Kateel in the Mangaluru Lok Sabha constituency.
Though there was speculation over the candidature of Mithun Rai until Saturday night, nobody had confirmed it officially. Now, all speculations regarding candidates have either been confirmed or put to rest as the AICC released its first and final list of candidates late on Saturday night.
It may be recalled that Newskarnataka.com had on Friday published through its highly placed sources that Mithun was selected over other heavyweights.
Meanwhile, sources in the BJP informed that Nalin will be filing his nomination on Monday, March 25. District Congress spokesperson AC Vinayraj when contacted told newskarnataka.com that Mithun Rai would also file his nomination on Monday at around 12.30 pm.
