Issac Vas elected KCCI president for second time

kcci vas 30092020 01Mangaluru: For the second time, MD of Merger Beverages, Issac Vas was elected as the President of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at the organisation’s 80th Annual General Meeting held on September 28.

Following the Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Annual General Meeting was held through video-conferencing and the voting process was conducted online.

Established in 1940, the KCCI’s primary objective is the growth of the region and serving trade and industry in the coastal region of Karnataka.

The rest of the office bearers for 2020 remain roughly the same as last year with Shashidhar Pai Maroor being elected as Vice-President, Nissar Fakeer Mohammed and CA Abdur Rahman Musba, as the Secretaries, and M. Ganesh Kamath as the Treasurer. Directors from the previous year namely Nitte Yathiraj Shetty, B.A. Nazeer, Ananthesh V. Prabhu, Amith Ramachandra Acharya, Aditya Padmanabha Pai, P. B. Ahmed Mudassar and Athmika Subbaiah Amin and Divakar Pai Kochikar have also been re-elected.

Besides these members, the General Body has elected four new Directors to the Chamber namely CA Nandagopal Shenoy, Anand G. Pai (Director of Bharath Beedis), Jeethan Allen Sequeira, partner at Cargolinks, Ashith Balakrishna Hegde, Managing Director for the Asia Pacific and Arkieva supply chain Technologies, USA.

Vas called to attention the accomplishments of KCCI for the year 2019-2020. Last year, the KCCI set up a world-class Alternate Dispute Redressal Centre for the benefit of the business community which was inaugurated by Justice S. Abdul Nazeer Judge.

He also presented a detailed project report (DPR) to the Government for an IT park on the land reserved for this project at Derebail, Mangaluru by KEONICS. The project will cost approximately Rs 60 crores for a 2-lakh sq ft land. The IT park has been designed by IDF Mangaluru in collaboration with CREDAI and other heads of the IT industry in the district.

The KCCI also sought the Mangalore Smart City’s (MSCL) partnership to share the costs of the construction of the IT park as a means to create employment opportunities for thousands of youngsters, paving the way for other economic developments.

Vas praised the state government for agreeing to shift the Commercial Court to Mangaluru, with a bench functioning at the District Courts and a Maritime Board for the State. He also said that the government has given a major push to cashew and other agricultural-based industries by meeting the Chamber’s demands for reforms in the APMC. The APMC cess has been reduced to 0.35%, restricted only to the APMC yard and sub yards.

In conclusion, Vas stated that reinventing, adapting to the new normal and keeping the Chamber’s activities, initiatives and programs relevant to the times is an obstacle that KCCI has to address in the coming years.
