ISRO has the capacity of facing challenges including space medicine: Madhavan Nair

Mangaluru: Former ISRO President Madhavan Nair opined that India had made a unique achievement in the world of space technology through ISRO and that ISRO was capable of facing many more challenges such as space medicine.

He was addressing the gathering during the inaugural event of the National Physiotherapy Conference “Confluence – 2019”, organised by the Lakshmi Memorial Physiotherapy College, a unit of the AJ group of institutions at the auditorium of AJ Hospital and Research Centre on Friday, December 6. He said, “By achieving many more things in space technology, India stands equivalent with Russia, America and China. ISRO will also be effective in dealing with health issues as well. It has made significant contributions to tele-medicine and tele-education through various satellites.”

Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary said, “Dakshina Kannada district is known for both health and education sector.  Infant mortality is very less in Dakshina Kannada compared to other districts in the state. It was possible due to the immense contribution of educational institutions and the contribution of health institutions.”

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Chancellor Dr. S. Sachidanand, after inaugurating the conference, said that the world had witnessed much more progress in the field of physiotherapy. “Health sector should be updated with the advancement of technology. The conference should focus on the use of new technology in physiotherapy, thereby allowing people to receive its benefit,” he added.

Former Laksmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy Principal Dr Shivaraya Prabhu was felicitated at the programme.  Dr. Lakshmi Memorial Education Trust Chairman A.J. Shetty presided over the programme. Inspector-General of Police Karnataka, M Chandrasekhar,  Renowned oncologist V P Gangadharan, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUSC) syndicate member Dr Shivasharan Shetty, Lakshmi Memorial Education Trust Vice President Prashanth Shetty,  AJ Hospital and Research Centre Medical Director Dr Prashanth Marla, Organising Secretary Dr Harish S Krishna, and convener Dr Sanjay Eapen Samuel were present among others.
