Mangaluru: The Indian Red Cross Society organised a Vaccination camp for stranded NRIs at Sudheendra Hall, Canara High School, Dongerkery, Mangaluru on Sunday June 6 from 9 am onwards. The camp was inaugurated by Rotary District Governor Rtn Ranganath Bhat.

Speaking to News Karnataka, Chairman of Disaster Management Committee, Indian Red Cross Society, Dakshina Kannada, Yathish Baikampady said that a total of 402 NRIs were vaccinated with the first dose along with 43 frontline volunteers.  He said that a google form was sent out which received almost 1000 responses. After filtering them based on entry and other technical aspects, 500 people were shortlisted. “Out of this some people could not be vaccinated due to some technical errors,” he added.

Yathish explained that the purpose of this campaign was to help the NRIs get vaccinated quickly so that they will not face any trouble if getting vaccinated becomes mandatory to go back abroad.

“We are planning on conducting one more camp to vaccinate the remaining 500 people and to finish the backlogs,” he explained. Yathish said that if the government reduces the gap between the two doses of vaccination to 30 days or so, the team will plan on conducting a vaccination camp of the NRIs for the second dose.

Various officials like BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V., District Health Officer Dr. Kishore Kumar, D.K. Indian Red Cross Society Chaiman, C A Shantharam Shetty and various others visited the camp and appreciated the efforts made by the Indian Red Cross Society.
