Mangaluru: If you want to see and taste different varieties of jackfruit products, you can visit Balambhat Hall near Sharavu Mahaganapati temple on June 22 and 23, where Savayava Krishika Grahaka Balaga will be organising two-day ‘Halasu Habba’ (jackfruit fest).
This is the fourth edition of jackfruit fest and Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (CAMPCO) President S R Satishchandra will inaugurate the event on June 22 at around 3.30 pm. The fest is not only limited to exhibit and sale of different varieties of jackfruit products, but it would also give training to prepare value-added products from jackfruit. Deepashri Doddamani, who has great knowledge on producing value-added products from jackfruit would give training on producing jackfruit cake, biscuit, rasam powder among others. Grahaka Balaga has fixed Rs 50 as the fee for the training programme.
Different varieties of jackfruit saplings will also be sold and exhibited. Meanwhile, there is an opportunity for the organic farmers from different parts of the state to sell their organic products in the fest.
Savayava Krishika Grahaka Balaga president Adur Krishna Rao told Newskarnataka.com that there is no awareness about the uses of Jackfruit in India. There is a need to create awareness among the public by organising these type of jackfruit fest, which enables the public to know the importance of jackfruit. According to the statistics over 2,000 crore jackfruits are being wasted in India owing to lack of knowledge. However, some countries like Malaysia, Philippines among others are producing value-added products and exporting it too,” he said.
