Former MP Jayram Shetty of Udupi, passes away at 63

Udupi, May 15: I M Jayaram Shetty, the former Member of Parliament (MP) of Udupi, passed away today in a Bangalore hospital at the  age of 63. He was born on May 1, 1951 to Irmady Bhujanga Shetty and Nagarathna Shetty, Moodalakatte. He obtained his bachelors degree in engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. He is survived by his wife Vidya J Shetty with two sons and a daughter.

In the 12th Lok Sabha, Irmady Moodalakatte Jayaram Shetty was MP of Udupi constituency a well as member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but later joined the Congress. From 1994 to 1998, he served as member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

In 1994, he contested the Assembly elections for the first time from Byndoor on a BJP ticket and defeated Jayaprakash Hegde.
 
In 1996, Jayaram Shetty contested the Lok Sabha elections from Udupi on a BJP ticket and defeated Oscar Fernandes from Congress, further in  2004, he  moved over to JD (U) and then to Samajwadi Party, before joining the Congress.
