Ecolink hosts international course on Universal Treatment Curriculum on SUD

Mangalore: Ecolink Institute of Well-being, Mangalore in collaboration with the Colombo Plan and Global Center for Credentialing and Certification (GCCC) have launched a training series on Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) on Substance Use Disorders from 15 September 2020.

Some 44 participants from India, Indonesia, Australia, the USA, Maldives, and Sri Lanka are attending the six months course which is based on a Universal Curriculum approved in more than 100 countries.

Becky Vaughn, the Director of the Global Center for Credentialing and Certification (GCCC) from the United States opened the training course through a virtual platform and emphasized the need for professionalizing the addiction therapy as Substance Use Disorder are increasing everywhere.

She said GCCC conducts examination for those completing the UTC course with Ecolink and grant international credentials and licensing to practice internationally. The Internationally Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP) can practice as a credentialed therapist around the world.

The Universal Treatment Curriculum is developed by Global experts through years of research and based on evidence-based practices in the field of addiction treatment and rehabilitation. It is developed by the Colombo Plan in collaboration and funding from the US Department of State, Washington DC.

The course is promoted by the United Nations (UNODC), the World Health Organization, and several international organizations in more than 62 countries as of now. Ecolink Institute of Well-being is an approved Training Provider for UTC.

Dr. Thomas Scaria, the Director of the Institute said the first virtual course was well received by over 50 participants from all over India and there is a growing demand for specialization in addiction treatment and therapy. The Drug problem is on the rise and there is a need for bringing standardization and minimum standards of care in drug treatment too, he said.

Psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, social workers, clergy, and psychology students are attending this certificate course and internship with Ecolink and Colombo Plan.
