Mangaluru: The Department of General Surgery at the Father Muller Medical College Hospital organised 'Dr Venkat Rao Memorial PG Quiz 2020' at their conference hall on Saturday, February 29.
Additional Dean of Kasturba Medical Sciences (KMC), Mangaluru Dr Alfred J Augustine inaugurated the programme and opined that educational institutions need to focus on extracurricular activities along with the curriculum. "Profit motive alone should not be the agenda of an educational institution. Father Muller Institutions has made immense contribution towards education, health and social welfare over many years," he said.
Commenting on the competition, Alfred said that even though only three teams will emerge as winners, the remaining teams should not be disappointed. "All 40 teams participating in the competition are winners," he said.
President of the inaugural programme, Father Muller Charitable Institutions Director Fr Richard A Coelho recalled the immense contribution of Dr Venkat Rao. "Dr Rao had delivered his selfless service to the institution for three decades and he used to pray before in the hospital's chapel before any surgery. Conducting a quiz completion in Dr Rao's name is a good move of the surgery department and quizzing will help the participants enrich their knowledge,” he opined.
Meanwhile, staff members who served in the department of general surgery for many years were honoured on the occasion.
Over 40 teams comprising students from different medical colleges in and around Mangaluru participated in the quiz.
