Delegation from DK’s co-operative societies to visit Israel

Mangaluru: The government of India and Israel have already spoken about strengthening the ties between the two nations through the farming sector and India has expressed its desire to revolutionise its own farm sector with the use of Israeli water-efficient farming system.

Working on the same lines, the South Canara District Central Co-operative Bank has decided to send a delegation to Israel from Dakshina Kannada so as to study the farming techniques that could help the farmers in the district. A total of 26 office-bearers of Primary Agricultural Co-operative Societies in Dakshina Kannada district are visiting Israel in order to study agricultural techniques between June 20 and 26.

It is for the first time in the history of the state that a co-operative (South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank is sending office-bearers of Primary Agricultural Co-operative Societies abroad in order to study the agricultural activities of another country. The office-bearers of different co-operative societies who would visit Israel are M Mahesh Hegde of Molahalli Agricultural Co-operative Society, Prakashchandra Shetty of Kambadakone, Sudheer Kumar of Padubidri, Sathish Shetty of Ganapati Agricultural Co-operative Society, H Gangadhar Shetty of Mandarthi, Karje Ashok Shetty of Udupi, Ashok Shetty of Hiriyadka, Narayana Ballal of Kodavoor, Thimma Poojary of Kota, Shankara Poojary of Katapady, Gregory Konrad of Shirva, Ramesh Shetty of Uppur, Sridhar Pandeshwar  Shivaram of Sastana, Lakshmana Gowda of Bangadi, Sathish K of Perady, Bhavani Shankar of Ajekar, K Chandrashekhar Bayari of Varanga, Ramesh Bhat Uppangala of Alankar, Ashwin L Shetty of Savanur, Krishna Kumar of Puttur, Dayanand of Yenekal , Damodara Gowda of Ubaradka Mittur, Monappa Poojary of Kajekar, K Radhakrishna Mayya of Maninalkur, Padmaprasad of Hosabettu, and Rathnakar Shetty of Bajpe Agricultural Co-operative society.

SCDCC Bank Chairman M N Rajendra Kumar on Sunday, June 16 said, “the farmers in Israel adopt some unique techniques in agriculture where very less water is used. Hence, the representatives would visit various places in Israel and study advanced system of agriculture and drip irrigation. They would also take tips on dairy farming, sheep farming and organic farming from there. All 26 persons would leave Mangaluru on June 20 and will return on June 26.  After returning from Israel, all representatives would send a report on the basis of their study in Israel in order to implement it in our agriculture activities”.
