Mangaluru: Following public demand for the demarcation of the Containment and Buffer Zones in the Bantwal taluk, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner has issued a revised circular identifying the areas under these zones.
As there were three active Covid-19 cases in the Kasba village in the Bantwal taluk, the district administration identified both containment and buffer zones which covered many areas and more people. Recently, protests were witnessed, where the people demanded that the sealdown be lifted. They also claimed the sealdown was unscientific. Even a few Congress leaders objected to the sealdown for an extended period.
As per the new circular, the Kasba village will be an active containment zone and it is bound by the residential house of Sadashiv Prabhu on the East, government gutter on the West, residential house of Ravichandra, son of Vitals on the North and residential house of Suresh Damodar Baliga on the South.
The buffer zone around this containment zone is bound on the East by Main Road, Ratha Beedi, on the West by SVS School Ground, on the North by the residential house of Shashikala, wife of Prabhakar and on the South by Balaji service station. This buffer zone has 97 residential houses, 12 shops and three offices. The total population of this area is 388.
For the effective implementation of the Covid-19 virus control measures, Tahasildar and Taluk magistrate of Bantwal has been appointed as the incident commander, who will be the overall in-charge of the containment zone and take necessary actions.
