Sullia: A total of 44 people, including Gram Panchayat President and PDO of the Ajjavar Gram Panchayat in the Sullia Taluk, have been asked to undergo home quarantine as the brother of a COVID-19 patient had attended one of their meetings.

A person from Ajjavara, who arrived in the Mangaluru International Airport ( MIA) on March 18 from Dubai, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 31. Before getting admitted to the Wenlock Hospital he was quarantined at his home in Ajjavara.

His brother had attended a Gram Panchayat meeting which was organised to discuss precautionary measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 in their village. Ironically, now, all those who attended the meeting, including the Gram Panchayat president, PDO and eight other Panchayat members, have to undergo home quarantine due to secondary contact, sources said.

It can be noted that 13 people were the COVID-19 patient’s primary contacts, are already under quarantine.
