Covid drive: Former corporator calls out DC’s alleged action as unlawful

Mangaluru: Former corporator Pratibha Kulai here took objection to the district commissioner’s actions wherein he fined and took action against various commercial establishments without forewarning. She also alleged it is unacceptable that the DC dragged a petrol bunk employees for not wearing a mask and got him arrested.

She was speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, March 24. She questioned who permitted DC to arrest one who did not wear a mask. There is a law which has to it which has to take its own course, she said. Corporation has fined big establishments with Rs 1000 fine, while for small establishments between Rs 4000 and Rs 5000. This a covid lobby, she alleged.

She expressed her anguish that the DC had permitted to two-day river festival where there were people in 1000s assembled yet he felt no covid would spread there. It is not for officers to behave haughtily, she said.

She also took a jibe at MP who went and took vaccination in a private hospital and added that it looks like the people in the government itself do not trust government hospitals.
