Mangaluru: The district administration finally succeeded in convincing the locals living in Boloor to make way for the final rites of another person who died due to COVID-19, on Sunday, June 28.
It may be recalled that confusion broke out at Boloor Masjid graveyard, when the locals objected to cremation of the COVID-19 patients there, on Sunday. Their stand was that since the deceased person hails from Suratkal, the last rites must be conducted in Suratkal and not in Boloor.
All explanations by the district administration that last rites of the victim cannot be comducted in Idya as the graveyard has been innundated due to rainfall, the locals were far from getting convinced.
The dead body was kept in the ambulance till about Sunday noon. After a lot of deliberations, the locals finally made way for conducting the last rites.
This is not the first time that such an incident has taken place in the district. Similar opposition was raised when first few victims were taken to Boloor crematorium and other places for cremation.
The locals said that they would not allow the district administration to cremate the COVID-19 victims as it may put the locals at risk.
